Joe Epkey Honored as MAC Player of the Week
March 17, 2006 | Men's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State junior Joe Epkey (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove H.S.) has been selected as the Mid-American Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the league office. The honor marks the first time in his career and the third in 2006 in which a BSU tennis player has been selected for the award.
Epkey won Ball State's lone singles match versus No. 62 UNLV last Friday. He defeated the Rebels' Romain Massaro 7-5, 6-0 at the No. 2 position. The singles win is the 10th for Epkey this season. He also teamed with Matt Baccarani -- the duo is ranked 28th nationally -- for an 8-6 win over UNLV's Joel Keilbowicz and David Campbell at the No. 1 doubles position. The duo is a perfect 8-0 at the No. 1 slot this season.
Epkey and the rest of the BSU squad return to action next Thursday through Saturday when they travel to the Boise State Invitational in Boise, Idaho.
