Men's Tennis Falls at UNLV to Snap Nine Match Winning Streak
March 10, 2006 | Men's Tennis
The Cardinals, who were without regular No. 4 singles player and doubles standout, Patrick Thompson, fall to 11-4 overall on the season. Meanwhile, the host Rebels improve to 10-3 overall.
UNLV started out the afternoon winning the bottom two doubles matches by the same score of 8-6 to earn the team point. However, BSU's No. 1 doubles tandem of 28th-ranked Matt Baccarani and Joe Epkey scored the Cardinals' lone doubles victory with an 8-6 decision over Joel Keilbowicz and David Campbell.
In singles play, the Cardinals were only able to pick up one singles win -- Joe Epkey at the No. 2 slot. Epkey downed his opponent -- Romain Massaro -- 7-5, 6-0. The host Rebels ultimately turned in five straight-set victories in the other singles matches.
The Ball State squad takes a two week break before heading to the Boise State Invitational March 23-25.
