Adam Konopka Named MAC Swimmer of the Week

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State junior men's swimmer Adam Konopka (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora H.S.) has been named the Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week after guiding the Cardinals to a win over IUPUI and a tie at Ohio last week. The award is the first for Konopka in his career, while it is the fifth for Ball State this season.
Konopka picks up the honor after scoring four individual first-place efforts in BSU's two meets last week. Konopka started the week with a first-place showing in the 100 butterfly (53.47) in last Wednesday's meet vs. IUPUI. Konopka also added a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:49.69) vs. the Jaguars.
In last Saturday's tie at Ohio, Konopka collected the top prizes in the 200 butterfly (1:56.10), the 200 backstroke (1:56.71) and the 200 IM (1:56.44). He was also a member of the second-place 200 medley relay squad with turned in a time of 1:36.84.
The next competition for the Swimming & Diving program will be the 2006 MAC Championships. The women's competition is Feb. 23-25 at Akron, while Ohio hosts the men's event March 2-4.
