Men's Volleyball Climbs to No. 9 in CSTV/AVCA Coaches Poll

Muncie, Ind. - - - With a perfect 8-0 record entering the week, the Ball State men's volleyball team jumped to No. 9 in the latest CSTV/AVCA Division I-II Men's Volleyball Coaches Top 15 Poll. BSU had spent the last three weeks at No. 10 after entering the season ranked 14th.
The No. 9 ranking marks the highest ranking for the Cardinals since they were last ranked ninth on March 16, 2004 - - or 31 polls ago.
Since the first poll on Jan. 28, 1986, Ball State has been ranked in the top 15 a total of 240 times, or in 79.7 percent of the 301 total polls conducted. BSU has been ranked in the top 10 a total of 128 times (42.5%).
Only eight teams have been ranked in the top 15 more times than Ball State. Hawaii, Long Beach State, Pepperdine and UCLA have reached the top 15 in all 301 polls. Penn State has broken into the top 15 a total of 299 times (99.3%) followed by Stanford (291; 96.7%), US Santa Barbara (279; 92.7%) and Cal State Northridge (262; 87.0%).
Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association foe Ohio State ties Ball State by reaching the top 15 on 240 (79.7%) occasions.
Ball State has also been ranked in the top five twice, with both being at No. 5. The last time BSU reached the No. 5 slot was in the 1995 final poll. BSU was also ranked fifth in the April 14, 1987 poll.
The Ball State men's volleyball team returns to action this afternoon when it travels to Central State for a 3 p.m. first serve. If the Cardinals remain undefeated after tonight's match, Friday's contest vs. No. 12 Loyola-Chicago will be a battle between the only undefeated Division I men's volleyball teams in the country. Match time vs. the Ramblers is set for 7:30 p.m. at Worthen Arena.
