Men's Swimming & Diving Ties Ohio, while Women Lose

Athens, Ohio - - The Ball State swimming & diving team completed its 2005-06 regular season with mixed results Saturday night at Ohio, as the men (3-4-1; 1-2-1 Mid-American Conference) tied the Bobcats 147-147, while the women (8-4, 4-3 MAC) suffered a 176-124 setback to the hosts from Athens.
The men's team won nine events on the day, while the women took home top billing in four.
Adam Konopka was BSU's top finisher on the day, collecting the top prize in the 200 butterfly (1:56.10), the 200 backstroke (1:56.71) and the 200 IM (1:56.44)
Zach Whitaker also scored a pair of individual victories for the Cardinals, collecting the top prize on both the one-meter (271.88) and three-meter boards (257.33).
Josh Schum added a first-place clocking of 1:42.94 in the 200 freestyle, while Kurtis Leer won the 100 backstroke (52.52) and the 100 freestyle (46.56).
The men's 800 freestyle relay team of Schum, Jim Lullo, Kyle Hembree and Leer also scored a first-place time of 7:02.55 in the tie.
On the women's side, Stephanie Paul won the three-meter (245.40), while Meghan Patterson won the 1000 freestyle (10:25.59), Megan Ploetz captured first in the 200 butterfly (2:08.97) and Erika Paul in the 100 butterfly (58.97).
The next competition for the Swimming & Diving program will be the 2006 MAC Championships. The women's competition is Feb. 23-25 at Akron, while Ohio hosts the men's event March 2-4.
