Men's Tennis Picks Up Two Wins in Saturday Doubleheader

Ball State started the day winning all three doubles matches versus Dayton. Matt Baccarani and Joe Epkey did not give up a game in an 8-0 win over Tom Murphy and Jamison Downs in the top slot. Meanwhile, Patrick Thompson and Tony Epkey teamed up for an 8-2 victory over James O'Connel and Rex Cabrera at the No. 2 position. In the No. 3 hole, Danny Vidal and Jose Perdomo added an 8-3 win against Dave Peyton and Brad Roby.
The Cardinals kept up the momentum in singles play as all but one match was decided in straight sets. Baccarani battled his opponent - Murphy - to three sets in the No. 1 spot and eventually prevailed 2-6, 6-1, 6-0. Joe Epkey slid past O'Connel 6-2, 6-1 in the second slot, while Tony Epkey had little trouble with Cabrera in the No. 3 position (6-4, 6-0).
Rounding out singles play with the Flyers were Thompson, who came out with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Downs, Jan Polhamus, who upended Peyton 7-5, 6-1 and Vidal, who tallied a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Chris Jones.
After a short break, the Cardinals took on interstate rival, the University of Indianapolis. Following a sweep of doubles, BSU took all but one singles match.
In doubles, Baccarani paired with Joe Epkey once again to score an 8-5 win in the No. 1 position. Thompson and Tony Epkey again prevailed with an 8-3 decision over Allan Dowell and Joshua Greenlee. Lastly, Joe Vallee teamed with Perdomo for an 8-0 victory at the No. 3 slot.
The success continued in singles play as Joe Epkey withstood Jan Stastny 6-3, 6-3 at the top position. Thompson fell to Ketan Sagger 6-1, 6-7, 8-10 in the No. 2 hole, while Polhamus added another win at No. 3 over Dowell (6-2, 6-2). Vidal and Vallee pushed past their opponents - Greenlee and Matthew Vought - 4-6, 6-3 (10-5) and 6-2, 6-1, respectively. Closing out the No. 6 spot was Perdomo, who finished off Linder 6-1, 6-4.
The Cardinals continue the 2006 season with a 4:30 p.m. matchup Wednesday versus No. 74 Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich.
