February 22, 2006 | Men's Tennis
Thompson was an integral part of the No. 69 Ball State men's tennis team posting wins over two ranked Big Ten opponents over the weekend. The two wins helped the BSU squad extend its winning streak to seven matches. In a 5-2 victory over No. 71 Purdue Friday , Thompson teamed with fellow senior Matt Baccarani – the duo is ranked No. 4 in the nation – for an 8-6 win over Patrick Rose and Eric Hodgman at the No. 1 doubles position. Thompson then tallied a straight-set 6-3, 7-6 victory over Jarred Leibner at the No. 4 singles slot.
In Ball State's 6-1 upset over No. 60 Indiana Sunday, Thompson paired with freshman Joe Vallee to defeat IU's Mak Kendall and Michael McCarthy 8-5 in the No. 3 doubles position. He then added another singles victory (6-1, 5-7, 12-10) at the No. 4 slot over McCarthy. For the weekend, Thompson went undefeated with a 4-0 record – 2-0 in doubles and 2-0 in singles play.
