February 20, 2006 | Women's Basketball
Ball State junior Tina Bolte (Columbus, Ind./North H.S.) has been selected to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Women's Basketball Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This marks the fourth-straight year a BSU player has earned academic all-district recognition. District V includes all NCAA Division I universities in the states of Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
A 5-foot-7 guard, Bolte currently ranks second for Ball State with her 10.8 scoring average. She has logged double-digit scoring marks 12 times this season for a total of 37 in her career. In addition, she has led the team in scoring six times in 2005-06, including a game-leading 17 versus Western Michigan last Saturday.
A tri-captain, Bolte has tied or bettered five career marks this season, including points with 27 at Murray State and rebounds with nine at Santa Clara. She currently places 22nd in the Mid-American Conference in scoring. In addition, she places No. 2 in the conference in 3-point field goals made with 2.3 per game and No. 5 in 3-point field goal percentage at .374.
"We are so very excited that Tina has gotten this recognition not only for her effort on the court, but also her effort in the classroom," BSU head coach Tracy Roller said. "Our program, with the help of Tina, continues to show the true meaning of what it is to be a ‘student-athlete.' I am most proud of our academic success as a team. Congratulations to Tina on her latest award."
Bolte owns a 3.49 grade-point average as a secondary education major. She is a two-time member of the MAC Academic Honor Roll.
The All-District V Second Team is rounded out by Jackie Closser of Butler, Allie Quigley of DePaul, Kristen Weddle of Indiana State, Shannon Schonrock of Minnesota and Erin Pauk of Southern Illinois.
