Women's Swimming Defeats Toledo 167-133

Muncie, Ind. – The Ball State women's swimming and diving team defeated Toledo in a Mid-American Conference face-off Friday night at Lewellen Aquatic Center. The Cardinals combined for nine first-place finishes in the match-up to edge the Rockets by a team score of 167-133. With the win Ball State improves to 6-3 (4-2 MAC) on the season, while Toledo falls to 5-4-1 (2-3-1 MAC).
Ball State started off the night with a first-place time in the 400 medley relay. Brittany Sayler, Addison Del Rio, Erika Paul, and Michelle Huang clocked a time of 3:54.17, edging the Toledo team by .03 seconds.
Meghan Patterson continued the winning ways for Ball State in the 1000 freestyle, with a time of 10:23.66.
Addison Del Rio claimed a first-place mark in the 100 breaststroke, recording a time of 1:05.85. Del Rio earned a first-place time in the 200, clocking in at 2:08.44.
Ashley VanOsdol swam to a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.68.
Following a brief slump, the Cardinals would rebound in the 500 freestyle, recording a 1-2-3 finish to tie the contest at 113. Mary Brinkoetter led the Ball State trio with a time of 5:07.86, followed by Meghan Patterson in second (5:08.10), and Danielle Fisher in third (5:13.61).
Erika Paul would follow with a win in the 100 butterfly, clocking a time of 58.28, to give BSU an advantage it would not relinquish the rest of the night.
In 3-meter diving, Stephanie Paul captured another first-place victory for Ball State, with a mark of 252.98.
The Ball State 200 freestyle relay squad then finished out the night with one more first-place time. Ashley VanOsdol, Michelle Huang, Brittany Sayler, and Abby Arnold combined for a 1:37.17 time in the event.
The Ball State swimming and diving team will look to continue its strong performance when its squares off with Butler tomorrow afternoon. Both men's and women's teams will compete against the Bulldogs at Lewellen Aquatic Center with a start time of 1 p.m. The contest also serves as the team's senior day.
