Men's Volleyball Breaks Into Top 10 for First Time Since 2004

Muncie, Ind. - - With three victories in its opening week, the Ball State men's volleyball team jumped to No. 10 in the CSTV/AVCA Division I-II Men's Volleyball Coaches Top 15 Poll after entering the season ranked 14th.
The No. 10 ranking marks the first time the Cardinals have broken into the top 10 since March 16, 2004 - - or 27-straight polls.
Since the first poll on Jan. 28, 1986, Ball State has been ranked in the top 15 a total of 237 times, or in 79.5 percent of the 298 total polls conducted. BSU has been ranked in the top 10 a total of 125 times (42.1%).
Only eight teams have been ranked in the top 15 more times than Ball State. Hawaii, Long Beach State, Pepperdine and UCLA have reached the top 15 in all 298 polls. Penn State has broken into the top 15 a total of 296 times (99.3%) followed by Stanford (291; 97.7%), US Santa Barbara (276; 92.6%) and Cal State Northridge (259; 86.9%).
Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association foe Ohio State ties Ball State by reaching the top 15 on 237 (79.5%) occasions.
Ball State has also been ranked in the top five twice, with both being at No. 5. That last time BSU reached the No. 5 slot was in the 1995 final poll. BSU was also ranked fifth in the April 14, 1987 poll.
The Ball State men's volleyball team returns to action Friday with a 7:30 p.m. match vs. Carthage - - who entered the season ranked No. 3 in the CSTV/AVCA Division III Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll - - in the Don Shondell/Active Ankle Challenge. Sunday's match vs. Juniata College has been cancelled.
