Muncie, Ind. - - Phil Eatherton (Glencoe, Mo.), a four-year letter winner for the Ball State men's volleyball team from 1994-97, helped guide the USA Men's Volleyball National Team to one if its most successful campaigns in history, as the team posted a 27-6 overall record during the 2005 season.

Beginning with the second match of the America's Cup and ending with the championship match of the NORCECA Continental Championships, the team posted 14-straight wins and three tournament championships. During the streak, USA lost just five of 47 games, while scoring 3-0 victories in 11 matches.

Of the five tournaments Team USA participated in, it won gold medals in three - - the America's Cup, the FIVB World Championship Qualifying Tournament and the NORCECA Continental Championship - - while earning silver medals in the other two - - the International Sports Invitational and the FIVB World Grand Champions Cup.

By winning the gold medal in the NORCECA Continental Championship, Team USA earned a trip to the 2006 World Championships in Japan as members of the NORCECA zone.
