Berg and Meyer Earn All-MIVA Honors

MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State junior Evan Berg (Bristol, Wis./Central) has been named to the 2005 All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association First Team and sophomore Nick Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) to the All-MIVA Second Team, as voted by the league's head coaches.
An outside attacker, Berg concluded the regular season with 265 kills, a 2.50 kill per game average and a .223 attack percentage. He attained his season-best attack percentage of .522 Feb. 25 versus rival IPFW and notched a season-high 19 kills March 26 at Findlay. His 261 digs were the second-highest total in the country and his 2.46 digs per game ranked eighth in the nation -- second in the MIVA. The only Cardinal to play in all 106 of BSU's games, Berg started at setter during a five-match span early in the season and accumulated 299 assists on the year -- including a team high 71 at Rutgers-Newark. Berg also notched 15 service aces, 34 block assists, two solo blocks and ranked fourth on the squad with 299 points.
The Feb. 28 MIVA Player of the Week, Meyer paced the Cardinals with 319 kills in 78 games played. He notched a career-high 28 kills Feb. 25 against IPFW and then topped his personal-best attack percentage by hitting .477 Feb. 6 at Rutgers-Newark. Meyer ranked 14th in the nation -- fourth in the conference -- with a 4.83 points per game average and 15th -- fifth in the MIVA -- with 4.09 kills per game, plus led the team with 377 points and 28 aces. He reached the 100-dig plateau for the second-consecutive season with 110 in 2005, added 56 block assists, two solo blocks and dished out 14 assists from the outside attacker post.
Ball State, ranked 15th in the nation in the April 19 USA Today/CSTV Coaches Poll, finished its regular season slate with a 16-14 overall mark and a 10-6 MIVA record. The Cardinals host Mercyhurst College Saturday, April 23 at 7 p.m., in a MIVA quarterfinal-round match at Worthen Arena.
