Ball State Men's Swimming & Diving Finishes Third at MAC Championships

With his third win of the Championships, BSU junior Kurtis Leer took the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle by clocking in at 44.75. Fellow junior Josh Schum finished seventh (46.56) and senior Paul Whitaker was 11th (47.73).
In the 200 breaststroke, senior Josh Willer placed fifth (2:05.91), while junior Ritchie Caudill (2:08.16) took eighth and freshman Ryan Franklin (2:09.27) was right behind in ninth.
Senior Zach Hall finished seventh (1:53.01) in the 200-yard backstroke, while sophomore Adam Konopka (1:55.20) was eighth and senior Jeff Sheets placed 13th (1:57.61)
Finishing 12th in the 200 butterfly was senior Ryan Bowman (1:57.57), as three Cardinals ranked in the top 16 in the 1650-yard freestyle. Junior Jim Lullo (16:47.52) placed 12th, sophomore Griff Goas (17:17.17) took 15th and sophomore John Rizor (17:46.11) was 16th.
In the three-meter diving event, senior Ryan Plantz took third place with 457.87 points and sophomore Caleb Bye took fifth with 445.57.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team (Willer, Whitaker, Schum, Leer) finished in second place with a time of 3:04.41, just three seconds behind the first-place team from Eastern Michigan.
Leer was the lone Ball State swimmer awarded All-MAC First Team honors, while Konopka, Schum and Hall were named All-MAC Second Team.
