Women's Basketball Falls at No. 2 Duke
December 19, 2005 | Women's Basketball
"Obviously, we knew we were going into this game undersized," said Ball State head coach Tracy Roller. "We just had to come give it our best shot. We had some good open looks that just did not go down."
Junior Tina Bolte knocked down two three pointers to lead the Cardinals with six points, while freshman Kiley Jarrett added another five. Senior Raechelle Hampton notched four points and snagged two steals in the contest. Sophomore Julie DeMuth pulled down eight rebounds to lead BSU on the boards.
Senior Monique Currie and junior Alison Bales paced the Blue Devils with 18 points apiece. Laura Kurz added 15, while Mistie Williams and Wanisha Smith added 12 and 11, respectively.
"Duke is very deep," Roller continued. "If you stop one, someone else is going to get hot. You try to stop their outside game, their inside game's going to get hot. You've got an All-American coming out and another All-American coming in. It's just very difficult. Plus, we got no second shot opportunities tonight."
"I don't look at the final score, said Duke head coach Gail Goestenkors. "That is not what the game is about. It is about us getting better and Ball State getting better. They got better in the second half. Their kids never gave up which I commend them for that."
The Cardinals take a short holiday break before hitting the hardcourt Dec. 29 at St. Mary's College in Moraga, Calif.
