Leer - - an All-MAC First Team selection and the defending Mid-American Conference champion in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events - - earns the honor after guiding the Cardinals to a second-place finish in last weekend's Doug Coers Invitational. During the two-day event, Leer collected four first-place clockings, including a pair of individual wins and a pair of relay victories.
He opened the event by swimming the third leg of the team's first-place 200 free relay, which posted a time of 1:27.17. After posting a third-place effort in the 50 free (21.75), Leer swam the anchor leg for the first-place 400 medley relay team (3:36.03). Leer would then go on to win the 200 free (1:46.49) and 100 free (47.84), while swimming the third leg of the 800 free relay (7:15.45) and the final leg of the 400 free relay (3:14.96) which both earned second-place.
Del Rio helped guide the Cardinals to a first-place showing at the Doug Coers Invitational by recording a pair of individual top times and three relay wins. Like Leer, Del Rio stared the event by guiding BSU's 200 free relay squad to a win by swimming the third leg for a team that posted a time of 1:39.10.
She would follow with a first-place effort in the 200 IM (2:09.01), while guiding the 400 medley relay (3:57.13) team to a first-place showing by swimming the second leg. She repeated the effort in the 200 medley relay, guiding the team to a time of 1:50.13 from the second leg, while going on to place second in the 100 breast (1:06.60). Del Rio would go on to add a first-place time of 2:30.82 in the 200 breast.
The Ball State swimming and diving team will return to action Dec. 2-3 at the IUPUI Invitational, which kicks off at
