Women's Basketball Inks Three Recruits
November 10, 2005 | Women's Basketball
Kyleigh Jones (Elwood, Ind./Elwood H.S.), Audrey McDonald (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo H.S.) and Kalynne Proctor (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Regina H.S.) have all signed national letters of intent to attend Ball State University and compete on the women's basketball team, according to Cardinals' head coach Tracy Roller.
A 5-foot-8 point guard, Jones led Elwood to a 20-4 overall record and a regional appearance in the state tournament last season. She averaged 20.4 points, 6.0 assists and 4.3 rebounds to earn selection to the Indiana Junior All-Star Central Team. A second-team all-state honoree one year ago, Jones enters this year's campaign as a Super Senior 25 preseason pick by Regional Roundball. She is a member of the AAU Indiana's Finest Team, which she helped to the Junior Olympic title and a third-place finish at the 16-and-under national tournament last summer. Jones, who also competes in softball, volleyball and track & field, ranks fifth in her class academically with a 4.14 grade-point average on the school's 4.00 scale. She is the daughter of Paul and Jodi Jones of Elwood. Her mother is a Ball State alum.
"Kyleigh is an unbelievably athletic guard who can penetrate or shoot threes," Roller says. "She continues the tradition of great point guards in our program. She is very knowledgeable about the sport and loves to play up tempo, as well as guard the opponents' best players. We can't wait to have her as part of our family."
A 5-8 guard, McDonald averaged 15.2 points, 3.8 assists and 2.5 steals to help Kokomo to a semi-state appearance and a 19-6 mark last season. In addition, she set a school standard with 74 3-point field goals on the way to her selection to the Indiana Junior All-Star Core Team. A four-year letterwinner, McDonald has helped the Kats to a 64-11 record during her career. Kokomo enters the upcoming campaign ranked No. 7 in the ICGSA Class 4A Preseason Poll. A two-time all-conference honoree, she is also a Super Senior 25 preseason pick. Like Jones, McDonald is a member of the Indiana's Finest and was named to the 2005 AAU All-America Team. A letterwinner in both volleyball and tennis, McDonald became the first player in school history to go undefeated in tennis conference play -- a feat she accomplished last spring. The daughter of Mike and Helen McDonald, Audrey ranks 10th in her class academically with a 10.9 GPA on the school's 12.0 scale.
"Audrey will be a great addition to our team. She is one of the best pure shooters I have ever watched. She has unbelievable range. As a versatile guard, with a tradition of winning, she will come into our program and make an immediate impact. We are very excited to have her here."
A 6-1 post player, Proctor helped Regina to the 2005 state championship and a 25-3 overall record after averaging 12 points and eight rebounds per game. She is a four-year letterwinner for a program, which has amassed over 300 wins and seven state titles, including five in the last six years, while producing over 45 NCAA Division I players. Proctor is a member of the SMAC Lady Ballers AAU team. The daughter of Keith and Lisa Langford, she owns a 3.2 GPA on the school's 4.0 scale.
"Kalynne is an incredibly athletic post player, who will bring a definite winning mentality. She is so physical in her low post play, but can out run you in transition down the floor. Kalynne is also a beast on the boards. She will be a great physical presence for our squad.
"I am very excited about this new BSU class. Our staff worked very hard to put together one of the best groups of signees we have ever had. When you look at the number of games this group has won, you know that the '06 class will be making waves in the MAC soon. Look for all of them to make an immediate impact on a very good BSU team."
After wrapping up its exhibition schedule Sunday, Ball State inaugurates its 2005-06 season Nov. 19 when it travels to Murray State for a 7:30 p.m. matchup.
