Erica Janssen Joins Swimming & Diving Staff

MUNCIE, Ind. - - Erica Janssen has been named the Graduate Assistant Swimming & Diving Coach at Ball State University according to co-head coaches Bob Thomas and Laura Seibold-Caudill. Janssen replaces Jason Mahowald, who was named the head swimming coach for the men's and women's programs at The University of South Dakota earlier this year.
Janssen joins the BSU staff from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, also the undergraduate school of Mahowald. Pursuing her masters in Sports Administration, Janssen was a four-year letterwinner for the Pointers from 2000-2004 and served as a volunteer assistant for the program last season while she earned her Bachelor's of Arts degree in Business Administration and Coaching.
In addition to serving as a volunteer assistant at her college alma mater, Janssen was also a volunteer coach at her high school alma mater, Oshkosh West. Additionally, she spent three years coaching the Stevens Point Area YMCA Swim Team. She also worked at the University of California-Irvine Swim Camp in 2003 and the Indiana University Swim Camp in 2001.
While swimming for the Pointers, Janssen was a five-time All-America selection and four-year NCAA qualifier. A team captain as a junior and senior, she helped guide the program to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title in 2001. A four-time conference relay champion, she earned all-league honors eight times as a member of the 200 free, 400 free, 800 freestyle and 400 medley relay squads. During the 2000-01 season, Janssen - - an academic all-conference honoree - - swam the third leg for the 200 freestyle relay team that still holds the school record with a clocking of 1:36.85.
At Oshkosh West High School, Janssen was a three-time state qualifier, team captain and team Most Valuable Performer. He club swimming experience includes being a YMCA National Qualifier for the Oshkosh YMCA Swim Team.
