Steve Yoder
- Induction:
- 2001
Yoder was the head men’s basketball coach for the Cardinals from 1977-82 and led Ball State to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 1981. The 1981 and 1982 MAC Coach of the Year, Yoder guided the Cardinals to a MAC Co-Championship in 1981 and the league crown in 1982. His 1981 team won the MAC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, while the 1982 regular-season title was the first outright championship in the school’s history. He guided Ball State to a 20-10 overall mark in 1980-81, which was the first 20-win campaign in BSU history. Yoder compiled a 77-62 head coaching record after inheriting a program that had only one winning season in the previous 13 years. Prior to gaining the head coaching position, Yoder spent one year as a BSU assistant.
