Suggs started four years in football and three in basketball at Ball State from 1972 to 1975 before playing five seasons in the National Football League with the New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals. Suggs was selected as the Mid-American Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year and received All-America second-team honors from the Associated Press in 1972 before becoming a second-round draft pick of the Jets.Â
