Rick Niemi, a 1972 graduate of Ball State, earned three letters as a member of the men’s volleyball team and was selected to the 1971 and 1972 NCAA All-Tournament and NCAA All-Star teams. He earned All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Most Valuable Player honors in 1972 and was named to the All-MIVA First-Team in 1971 and 1972 after earning Second-Team laurels in 1970. Niemi helped BSU to a 60-12 overall record and three NCAA Championship berths in his career. He was BSU’s MVP in 1970.
