George Swafford

Swafford served as Ball State’s Faculty Athletics Representative to the MAC and NCAA from 1971-88. He was chairman of the BSU Athletics Hall of Fame from 1976-88 plus was the university’s representative on the MAC Hall of Fame Committee. A Ball State employee from 1959-88, Swafford served on numerous MAC and NCAA Committees. He was inducted into the Indiana Teacher Education Hall of Fame in the inaugural class in 1997, and was a MAC 50th Anniversary Honoree in 1996. A 1950 graduate of Western Illinois, Swafford earned his master’s from Western Illinois in 1954 and his doctorate from Northern Colorado in 1959. He received the Northern Colorado Honored Alumni Award in 2002. Swafford, who retired from BSU in 1988, was a professor of educational administration and the director of professional lab experience at Ball State from 1959-88. He was a visiting professor at Catawba College in 1991-92, and served as director of field experiences at Rhode Island College in 1988-89.
