Houk was a three-year starter in both football and baseball for the Cardinals from 1964 to 1967. He quarterbacked the 1965 football team to a perfect 9-0 regular season and earned Most Valuable Player honors in the 1965 Grantland Rice Bowl as Ball State tied Tennessee State 14-14.
Houk was the Indiana Collegiate Conference’s co-MVP in baseball in 1966 after leading BSU in hitting with a .350 average and was named to the NCAA District Four third team in 1967.
