Nixon, a member of the tennis team from 1984 through 1988, Nixon and teammate Todd Hershey won the MAC Championship at No. 1 doubles as sophomores and juniors after claiming the MAC’s No. 3 doubles crown in their freshman seasons. As seniors, Nixon and Hershey advanced to the NCAA Tournament in doubles and ranked as high as 12^th in the country before finishing the season ranked 18^th in the nation. As juniors, the duo advanced to the semifinals of the prestigious Volvo Fall All-American Tournament plus won the district championship in doubles. As a singles player, Nixon was the MAC Champion at No. 4 singles as a junior. He was a three-time All-MAC selection and helped Ball State to four straight conference crowns.
