Women’s Swim and Dive Complete Preseason Red/White Meet
October 07, 2017 | Women's Swimming and Diving
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women's swimming and diving team's 2017-18 season is officially underway. The Cardinals competed in their annual Red/White intrasquad meet Saturday morning.
Team captain Traci Muszalski led the White Team to a 108-107 victory over the Red Team, which was led my team captain Amanda Kedzierski.
The four freshmen had strong performances in their first meet as a Ball State Cardinal. Kayla Molnar had a first place finish in the 500 freestyle along with a second place finish in the 200 freestyle. Audrey Schank also earned a first place finish today in the 100 backstroke. Schank was also part of the first place finish in the 200 freestyle relay alongside Sophie Bader, Andrea Richter and Peighton Gilbert. Cailin Merck recorded a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke and a third place finish in the 200 IM. On the board, Caitlin Locante had a solid first performance representing the white team.
Other top finishers on the day were Liz Madison in the 200 freestyle, Peighton Gilbert in the 50 freestyle, Sophie Bader in the 200 IM, Lauren Elston in the 100 freestyle, and Amanda Kedzierski in the 100 breaststroke.
Veteran head coach Kristy Patterson was excited with what she saw at today's meet.
"I'm very pleased with today's performances," said Patterson. "We were able to see some close races that show the depth with this squad. Our relays really shined through where we could see some early speed. We are ready to keep the progress going over the next two weeks before we travel to Purdue."
The Ball State women's swimming and diving team will begin regular season action on Oct. 21 when they travel to West Lafayette, Ind. for the Indiana Intercollegiate meet.
