Alexus Jimson-Miller enters her second season as an assistant coach for the Ball State track & field program.
A 2018 graduate of Miami University with a degree in public health, Jimson-Miller oversees Ball State’s sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers. She is also currently pursuing a masters’ degree in Emerging Media Design and Development.
In her first season at Ball State in 2017-18, Jimson-Miller helped the Cardinals earn six total medals at the MAC Championships (combined indoor and outdoor), including a pair of golds. The six top three finishes were the most for the program since the 2009 team captured 12.
Peyton Stewart led Ball State's sprinters, earning silver medals in the 60m (indoors) and the 100m (outdoors) and was also a member of the second-place 4x100m relay at the MAC Outdoor Championships.
Joining Stewart on the first Ball State relay to medal at the MAC Championships since the 4x100m relay in 2009 were Jazmin Smith, Bryeana Byrdsong and Amber Jones. Smith also claimed an individual medal, placing third in the indoor 60m hurdles.
A four-year letterwinner for the RedHawks track & field program, Jimson-Miller set both the Miami and Mid-American Conference Championship record in the 100m hurdles when she won the 2017 outdoor title in 13.26. The effort helped her advance to the NCAA East Preliminary Round for the second straight season.
“Alexus will help me oversee the power event areas, and work closely with the sprints/hurdles and jumps groups,” heac coach Brian Etelman said. “She competed in the NCAA post-season twice as a hurdler and had a great experience as a student-athlete. Her passion for the sport and achieving success will make her a great coach. I’m really excited to work with Alexus as we both aim to continue to build champions in the sprint/hurdle/jump group and take an already talented group to the next level.”
A two-time MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete in outdoor track & field, Jimson-Miller placed second in the 100m hurdles at the 2016 MAC Outdoor Championships. She is also a two-time Academic All-MAC selection and a two-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Women’s Track & Field Team member.
