Jonathan Newby joins the Ball State gymnastics staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2016-17 season.

Newby was a student manager for the Ball State women's gymnastics team 2012-2015.

A New Castle (Ind.) High School graduate, Newby competed for Small Wonders Gymnastics for 11 years for coaches Katrina Newby, Dennis Winslow and Matt Penticuff. As the son of Katrina Newby, who owns Small Wonders, he helped his club team to rank No. 1 in the state for two consecutive years.

Newby graduated in the top of his high school class with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. He has six years of coaching experience, working with Levels 4-8.
