Bio
The Ball State women's basketball 2025-26 roster continues to take shape as Cardinals' head women's basketball coach Brady Sallee has announced the signing of Zhen Verburgt (Hemiskem, Belgium).
"We are so excited about Zhen," Sallee said. "We feel she is an elite talent with a rare combination of size, length and versatility. She is a do it all kind of player! She takes the game and her development very seriously and we feel like she can be a special player in our system! Zhen will show up ready to go considering the high levels she has been competing at in Europe. I cannot wait to get her to Muncie."
Verburgt began her love for basketball when she was five years old with Schelle BBC a small local club near her home. Two years later she joined her permanent home with her current club Phantoms Basket Boom. Throughout her career, Verburgt has played for the Belgian U16 team competing in her first-ever European Championship. She was one of the youngest players on the team averaging 12.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
Verburgt has had a successful European career as she was recently added to the roster of the Phantoms Basket Boom Top Division team, playing in 24 games while averaging 29 minutes per contest. Verburgt has been averaging 12 points per game, and 8.2 rebounds. An active player on both offense and defense, Verburgt has earned herself a top 10 spot in the efficiency ranking in the Belgian league.
Currently, Verburgt is also a member of the U19 Phantoms Basket Boom squad that is in the running to clinch a play-off spot after reaching the finals of the Belgian Cup by defeating the top two teams in the league in the quarter and semifinals. Verburgt is also a member of the Belgium national team the Belgian Cats.
