Kevin Lynch was named assistant head coach on Feb. 14, 2024, and still serves as the quarterbacks coach, a position he has held since 2021 for Ball State football.
Previously, Lynch served as offensive coordinator for four seasons and running backs coach for one season with the Cardinals. Under his guidance, playmakers Justin Hall and Carson Steele achieved remarkable performances. Hall set program records for career all-purpose yards (5,359) and career receiving yards (3,385) while tying the NCAA record for consecutive games with a reception (54). Steele, a true freshman, joined a select group of running backs by producing over 1,000 all-purpose yards in 2021. Lynch also played a crucial role in helping develop quarterback Drew Plitt, who concluded his career by ranking second in Ball State history in completions, third in passing yards and third in passing touchdowns.
In January 2020, Lynch took on the position as offensive coordinator at Ball State. In his inaugural season as offensive coordinator, Lynch contributed to Ball State's successful 2020 MAC Championship season along with aiding the program to its first bowl victory in the Arizona Bowl and a notable presence in the AP and coaches polls.
His coaching experience extends to various positions, as he transitioned from coaching running backs to quarterbacks in spring 2021. Lynch served as the recruiting coordinator in 2018 and 2019 and coached Caleb Huntley to All-MAC honors in 2019 and 2020. After he rushed for more than 100 yards in seven of the eight league games and earned third-team recognition in 2020 despite playing only three games, Huntley became just the second Cardinal freshman to reach 1,000 rushing yards in the 2017 season and went on to finish his career seventh in program history in rushing. Ball State’s offense averaged 220 rushing yards per game in 2016, its highest since 1978 (238.6). Notably, Lynch mentored James Gilbert to All-MAC first-team accolades in 2016, after piling up 1,432 rushing yards, the fourth most in a single season by a Ball State player.
Prior to Ball State, Lynch coached at UIndy where he served as an assistant coach from 2010-2015. Being part of the most successful eras in UIndy history, Lynch helped the Greyhounds to 39 wins, four conference championships and three NCAA Division II playoff appearances in four years. He mentored numerous UIndy receivers to all-conference accolades, including two-time GLVC Player of the Year and 2015 All-American, Reece Horn.
Lynch holds a bachelor's degree from Franklin College, where he was a standout all-conference wide receiver. Lynch was a key contributor to Franklin's success, helping the team secure back-to-back league titles in 2007 and 2008, and reaching the NCAA Division III Elite Eight during his senior season.
Lynch is married to his wife, Katelyn, and is a father to three sons; Will, Beau and Jack, and a daughter, Lucy.
