Wise's Big Day Helps WVB Complete Weekend Sweep of Western Michigan

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State women's volleyball team finished its opening weekend of Mid-American Conference play with an unblemished record, topping Western Michigan for the second consecutive night in straight sets.
After taking the opening set inside Worthen Arena, the Cardinals (11-2, 2-0 MAC) saw a 22-18 deficit to the Broncos (8-5, 0-2 MAC) before four different Cardinals struck down straight kills to tie the contest.
Out of a WMU Timeout, Ball State continued the momentum, going on a 4-2 run to complete the comeback. Camryn Wise and Tiffany Snook led the effort, tallying seven kills each in the set. Wise and Ava Smith made up five kills for Ball State's final nine points.
The Cardinals didn't look back from there, carrying the momentum into the final set while seeing a lead that eventually reached as many as 10 points.
Wise finished the match with a career-best 16 kills on a nearly perfect .889 attack percentage. Smith followed with 15 kills, while Gwen Crull recorded 10. Smith also had two of Ball State's six total service aces.
Lindsey Green and Reese Axness helped Ball State to a .328 hitting clip, totaling 28 and 16 assists, respectively.
Defensively, Sophie Ledbetter matched her dig total from the night prior, totaling 17. Green also hit the double-digit mark, tallying 10 digs. Five total Cardinals had five or more digs against the Broncos. Snook and Wise had a pair of blocks each, while Audrey Greer, Mallory Pike and Crull had one.
The Ball State defense managed to hold Western Michigan to a .200 hitting percentage as a team. The Cardinals offense finished with 54 total kills, compared to Western Michigan who had just 33.
For the Broncos, Annalise Patchett and Gabby Weihe led offensively with nine kills each. Elana Erickson paced the unit defensively with 10 digs.
Ball State continues MACtion on the road with back-to-back contests next weekend at Toledo. First serve on Oct. 2 is slated for 6 p.m. ET, and Oct. 3 is scheduled for a start time of 4 p.m. ET.
