CLEVELAND - - For their play at last weekend's Hilltopper Spring Fling, Ball State softball senior first baseman Lindsey DeRoeck and redshirt junior pitcher Bridie Murphy have earned Mid-American Conference weekly honors.
Â
DeRoeck was named the MAC Co-Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Miami's Danitza Hernandez. Murphy was named the MAC Co-Pitcher of the Week, sharing the honor with Miami's Léa Chévrier.
Â
DeRoeck, in her first season with the Cardinals, earns MAC Player of the Week honors for the first time after leading the Ball State offense with 10 hits and a .556 batting average over five games at the Hilltopper Spring Fling. In helping the team to a 3-2 record in the event, she was credited with three doubles and a home run, while driving in five RBIs and scoring two runs.Â
Â
DeRoeck recorded at least one hit in all five games, led by a 3-for-4 effort in the Cardinals 7-6 victory over Illinois. Her home run was a two-run blast in the 6-4 (10) setback to Western Kentucky.
Â
Murphy, who missed last season due to injury and is in her third playing season with the Cardinals, earn MAC Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time in her career. Murphy picked up her first complete game victory of the season in Friday's 2-1 (8) victory over IU Indy, limiting the Jaguars to five hits and one run over her 8.0 innings of work in the contest.
Â
She also struck out a season-high seven batters in the game. She followed with a solid outing Sunday versus Illinois despite picking up the loss over her 4.1 innings of work.Â
Â
For the week, Murphy boasted a 1-1 record and 2.84 ERA, while limiting opposing batters to a team-low .255 average. She also struck out eight total batters over her team-leading 12.1 innings of work.
Â
The Ball State softball team returns to action Friday, when it opens play in the Cardinal Classic hosted by Louisville with games versus Bellarmine (3 p.m.) and host Louisville (5:30 p.m.)
