Women's S&D Medal in Five of Six Events on Day three of MAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio – The Ball State women's swimming and diving program earned medals and program records in five of six events on day three of the Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in Akron, Ohio.
For the second-consecutive day, senior Payton Kelly captured gold while stamping another NCAA qualifying mark, this time in the 100 backstroke (52.07). Her finishing time also beats her previous standard which she set at House of Champions earlier this season (Nov. 21).
The women opened Friday evening's finals with back-to-back bronze medals, with Anna Keen finishing third in the 100 butterfly (52.22) followed by Alexa Von Holtz in the 400 individual medley (4:19.33). Both women set new Ball State records.
Freshman Addie Beasley saw her first career individual medal with a bronze finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.43), overtaking the previous program standard set by Bridgette Ruehl in 2013.
Ball State closed the day with a medal finish in the 200 freestyle relay, as the team of Keen, Ava Butterfield, Kiley Zoeller and Kelly combined for a time of 1:30.42, taking bronze. The squad shaved .36 off their old record which they also set at House of Champions (Nov. 20).
As the Cardinals prepare for the final day of action, the women currently sit at third with 336.5 points. Ball State trails behind Ohio (360) and Akron (511.5).
Day four of the MAC Championships kicks off with prelims at 10 a.m. while the 1650 final starts at 3:40 p.m. The rest of the final events begin at 6:10 p.m.
