
Volleyball Falls to South Dakota in Saturday Action

STORRS, Conn. - - The Ball State women's volleyball team closed play in the Top Dogs Challenge hosted by UConn with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-12) setback to South Dakota Saturday morning at the UConn Volleyball Center.

After dropping the opening set, the Cardinals (2-4) battled back to take a late 21-18 lead in the second stanza. Unfortunately, the Coyotes (4-2) scored the next four points and won the frame 25-23. Ball State would also strike first in the third, on a kill from junior setter Lindsey Green, but South Dakota surged ahead late with 12 of the final 13 points to secure the final set and the match victory.

Sophomore setter Carson Tyler continued her hot start to the season, smashing a team-high 13 kills. She has reached double-digit kills in all six matches so far this year and is currently third in the Mid-American Conference with a 4.12 kills-per-set average this season. That includes a 4.42 average this weekend at the Top Dogs Challenge.

Graduate outside Noelle VanOort, graduate opposite Christyn Ashby and junior middle Camryn Wise each chipped in five kills to aid the Ball State offense. VanOort added nine digs and served up the Cardinals' lone two aces of the day.

Green dished out 13 assists, to go along with five digs and her kill to start the third, and freshman setter Reese Axness contributed 10. Their effort helped Ball State finish the match with a .133 (33-19-105) attack percentage.

In the backcourt, sophomore libero Sophie Ledbetter led the defense with 10 digs and was a perfect in 29 reception attempts. Along with her team-high 13 kills, Tyler collected four digs and a pair of solo blocks, while going 22-for-23 in serve receive.

Lauren Medeck led the South Dakota offense with 16 kills, while chipping in 11 digs for a double-double. Kamryn Farris led the Coyotes with 12 digs, while Avery Van Hook dished out 38 assists to help USD connect for a .356 (48-13-98) attack percentage.
