LUBBOCK, Texas - - On a blustery day at The Rawls Course, which saw all 15 teams finish at least seven strokes above par, the Ball State women's golf team closed play in the Red Raider Invitational tied for seventh overall with a 54-hole score of +50 (914).
On the longest course it will play this fall, at 6,894 yards, the Cardinals struggled to gain momentum on the second day of competition after entering the day in fifth.
"It was a tough day today," head coach Cameron Andry said. "Windy conditions made today challenging, but we made it way more difficult with poor execution and pour decision making. We'll reflect and learn from today and be better moving forward."
Despite the rough day, Ball State still managed to top three squads ranked ahead of it in the final 2024-25 Scoreboard rankings; No. 108 New Mexico, No. 109 Sam Houston and No. 153 Texas - El Paso.
Sophomore Sophie Korthuijs and junior JJ Gregston tied for Ball State's lowest round of the day, each finishing the final 18 at +6 (78). Korthuijs' round included one birdie and 11 pars and she played the course's back nine at even-par. Gregston's effort included two birdies and eight pars.
With her final-day effort, Korthuijs tied senior Sabrina Langerak for the team's overall tournament lead, as the duo tied for 28th among the 84-golfer field at +12 (228). Langerak's final round included three more birdies, as she tied for second among the field with 11 for the tournament.
Senior Jasmine Driscoll tied four 43rd overall, finishing the tournament at +16 (232), while Gregston and senior Sarah Gallagher tied for 54th at +19 (235).
Ball State also finished the tournament fourth among the 15-team field with a par-5 average of +7 (5.12).
Host Texas Tech won the event at +12 (876), shooting the lowest round of the day at +7. The other 14 teams were at least +17 Wednesday, with only one squad (UT Arlington) improving from its second-round score.
Up next for the Ball State women's golf team will be the Marilynn Smith Invitational hosted by Kansas Oct. 6-7 at the Lawrence Country Club. In addition, the Cardinals will sent its remaining individuals to the Put Me In Coach Invitational the same two days at the Delaware Country Club in Muncie.
