
Volleyball Falls to James Madison in Weekend Finale

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - - Sophomore outside Carson Tyler smashed a career-high 26 kills, but it was not enough for the Ball State women's volleyball team to hold off a late charge from James Madison in a 3-2 (21-25, 19-25, 27-25, 25-14, 15-9) setback Sunday afternoon in its final match of the Marquette Tournament.

The Cardinals (4-5) looked poised to end the match in three, winning the first two sets and battling back from down 17-11 in the third to reach match point at 25-24. Unfortunately, the Dukes (4-5) answered with the final three points of the third and nine of the first 10 in the fourth to take control of the contest.

Along with her career-high 26 kills, Tyler chipped in a team-high 18 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. She also collected two blocks, a service ace and was a perfect 25-for-25 in serve receive.

Graduate outside Noelle VanOort added her fifth double-double of the season with 16 kills and 13 digs, while junior middle Camryn Wise smashed 12 kills, hit .435 (12-2-23) and collected four total blocks.

In helping guide the Ball State offense to a .299 (72-23-164) attack percentage, junior setter Lindsey Green was credited with a career-high 51 assists for the second time on the weekend. She also hit the mark in Friday's five-set victory over Marquette. Green also tallied four digs, three kills and her team-leading 12th service ace of the season versus JMU.

Rounding out Ball State's top contributors Sunday were sophomore libero Sophie Ledbetter with 17 digs and junior middle Gwen Crull with seven kills and four total blocks. Redshirt freshman opposite Riley Whitlock added six kills and three blocks.

The Dukes' Kennedy Louisell led all players with 28 kills, while Ana Toumazatos tallied 17. Their effort helped JMU finish the match hitting .354 (71-13-164). In the backcourt, Julia McNeley paced all players with 21 digs.

The Ball State women's volleyball team returns to action Thursday when it opens the home portion of its 2025 season versus Cincinnati at 11:30 a.m. for Field Trip Day in Worthen Arena. The Cardinals will then welcome Purdue for a 6 p.m. first serve Friday, before facing Eastern Kentucky Saturday at 4 p.m.Â
