Whitney Named MAC Pitcher of the Week

CLEVELAND - - After another brilliant weekend for the Ball State softball program, junior Ella Whitney has been named the Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Whitney led the Cardinals staff with a 1.50 ERA and a .246 average against over three appearances between MTSU Invitational and Purple & Gold Challenge. Over 14.0 innings of work, she allowed just 15 hits and three earned runs, while striking out 10 batters.

Whitney was credited with the pitching win in Ball State's 10-1 (6) victory over Illinois State (March 1), allowing just five hits and one unearned run over her 6.0 innings of work. She also struck out four batters over 1.2 innings of relief work versus Northern Iowa (March 2), while chalking up six strikeouts over her 6.1 innings against MTSU (Feb. 28).

Along with her solid pitching, Whitney tied for team-high honors with four RBIs, while blasting her second home run of the season for one of her five hits over the weekend. She also scored a pair of runs.

Whitney and the Ball State softball team return to action Friday (March 7) when it opens play at the Bellarmine Invitational with games versus the host Knights (10:30 a.m.) and Stonehill (1 p.m.).
