March 11, 2025 | Softball
CLEVELAND - - For their play in guiding the Ball State softball team to a 5-0 record at last weekend's Bellarmine Invitational, redshirt senior McKayla Timmons was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week and junior Ella Whitney was named the MAC Pitcher of the Week.
Â
Timmons, who earns MAC weekly honors for the third time in her career, led the Ball state offense with 10 hits last week, including three doubles and three home runs. The effort gave her a .625 batting average and helped her led the squad with nine RBI and nine runs scored.
Â
She recorded at least one hit in all five games, extending her active hitting streak to 11 games and upping her streak of reaching base safely to 45 games. Timmons also drew three walks and was hit by a pitch twice for a .714 on base percentage.
Â
After her effort last weekend, Timmons currently leads the league and ranks 13th in the nation with a .510 batting average. She is also currently first in the MAC and third nationally with a .662 on base percentage.
Â
Whitney, who earns MAC Pitcher of the Week honors for the second consecutive week, made three appearances in the circle last weekend throwing 20.0 innings. She posted a 0.70 ERA and held opposing batters to a .134 average, allowing just two earned runs and nine total hits.
Â
Whitney won all three games she pitched, including throwing the first six innings to earn a combined shutout in Sunday's 6-0 win over Stonehill. In addition, Whitney struck out nine batters while issuing just four walks.
With the effort, Whitney now leads all MAC players with eight pitching wins and a .198 opponent's batting average on the season, while her 1.62 ERA is third in the league.
Â
The duo, along with the rest of the Ball State softball team, are scheduled to open MAC play this weekend at Akron. The teams are currently scheduled to play a 3 p.m. game Friday and a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
