
Women’s Tennis Claims 6-1 Victory Over Eastern Illinois

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team (1-1) opened home action with a 6-1 victory over Eastern Illinois (2-7) Friday evening at the Northwest YMCA.
Ball State registered wins on the top two doubles courts by a 6-1 decision to take the early 1-0 edge over Eastern Illinois. Sarah Shahbaz teamed up with Isabelle Tanjuatco at the No. 1 slot for a 6-1 defeat over Aleyla Wooten and Michelle Kostadinova. Shortly after, the No. 2 doubles tandem of Chloe Brown and Alana Bristow tallied their 6-1 victory versus Ornella Lomenzo and Luisa Renovales.
Bristow and Tanjuatco were quick to exit the courts to open singles play. Bristow registered a straight set 6-0, 6-1 win on court six while Tanjuatco was victorious in two frames at the No. 5 spot.
With the Cardinals up 3-0 the match was claimed after Shahbaz took down EIU's No. 3 player Charleigh Fay, 6-1, 6-1. Chloe Brown extended BSU's lead to 5-0 with her 6-2, 6-4 victory on court No. 4. Rounding out today's singles wins was Jemima Williams-Phillips at court two.
