Gymnastics Sweeps MAC Weekly Awards

CLEVELAND - - Thanks to strong performances by sophomore Ashley Szymanski and junior Zoe Middleton at the Denver Black Out Quad Meet, the Ball State gymnastics program swept this week's Mid-American Conference weekly honors.

Szymanski was named the MAC Specialist of the Week for the second time this season, while Middleton picked up her second MAC Gymnast of the Week honor on the year and the fifth of her collegiate career.

Szymanski turned in the league's best bars score last week, earning her fifth 9.875 of the season at the Denver Black Out Quad Meet. The effort has her leading the MAC and ranked 31st nationally with a bars NQS of 9.860. In addition, her 9.825 on beam tied as the fourth-best score on the apparatus in the league last week.

Middleton turned in a solid all-around effort at Denver, finishing third among a talented field with a score of 39.075. The effort was highlighted by a season-best score of 9.850 on bars, as well as 9.775s on both vault and beam. Middleton currently leads the league with a floor NQS of 9.840, while ranking second in the all-around (38.885), third on vault (9.780) and sixth on bars (9.775).

The Ball State gymnastics team returns to action Friday when it travels to Towson for a 6 p.m. showdown with the Tigers which will be streamed on YouTube Live.
