MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's volleyball team closed the first weekend of Mid-American Conference play with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-23, 25-13) setback to Bowling Green Saturday afternoon in Worthen Arena.
"We were not good," head coach Kelli Miller Phillips said about the team's play Saturday. "It's super disappointing because I thought we had a good game plan. I thought we would bounce back from last night, so there is still a lot to learn."
Unlike last night's five-set thriller, the Cardinals (7-6; 0-2 MAC) were never able to find a rhythm in the rematch, hitting just .021 on the day. One bright spot on offense, however, was the play of junior opposite Madison Buckley who tied for match-high honors with 11 kills.
Buckley also finished the match tied for the team-high with three total blocks, while hitting a team-best .304 (11-4-23).
In the backcourt, freshman libero Sophie Ledbetter and senior setter Megan Wielonski tied for team-high honors with seven digs each.
Mia Tyler led the Falcons (7-6; 2-0 MAC) offense with 11 kills, while Lindsey LaPinta chipped in a match-best 12 digs. Combined, the BGSU defense also tallied 12.0 total blocks, helping slow down one of the nation's top offenses in Ball State.
The Cardinals return to action next weekend with a two-match series at Central Michigan. The teams will play at 6 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday at CMU's McGuirk Arena.
