July 05, 2024 | Gymnastics
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State gymnastics head coach Joanna Saleem is excited to announce the addition of seven-time Canadian national medalist Jordanna Phillis to the program's incoming class for the 2025 campaign.
Â
Phillis, a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, joins a highly talented recruiting class, including Viviana Campuzano, Avery Kantor, Karli Mercer, and Breelyn Rickey.
Â
"We are very excited to welcome Jordanna into the GymCard family," Saleem said. "Our fans will love watching this powerful young woman on the competition floor this year. She will make an immediate impact in our bar lineup with her high-level releases and dynamic swinging, and I expect to see her competing on the vault and floor. Our team is gaining more than Elite-level experience as she is a fabulous young woman who understands determination and hard work. She fits perfectly into the culture of our Cardinal family. I know everyone is excited to welcome Jordanna to the team."
Â
The 2023 Elite Canada Vault Champion helped guide Team Canada to gold at the 2024 Luxembourg Open by placing 10th among the field with an all-around score of 44.500. Her effort included a seventh-place result of 11.734 on vault.
Â
"I chose Ball State because of the family environment," Phillis said. "As soon as I stepped on campus, I felt like I had a home away from home with the gymnastics team. The campus is absolutely gorgeous, and I fell in love."
Â
Phillis is also a 2023 Canada Winter Games medalist and a 10-time British Columbia Provincial Champion. She intends to major in psychology at Ball State.
