Track and Field has Successful Weekend at Jesse Owens Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ball State track and field team competed in Columbus, Ohio Friday and Saturday at the Jesse Owens Classic.
Starting the weekend, Maci Easton achieved a new personal best mark of 27.32m in the javelin throw. She is now among the top 18 in the Mid-American Conference.
Friday's track events saw success as well. Lindley Steele ran a new personal best in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line with a time of 1:04.15.
Jenna Oriani wrapped up Friday night's competition with a fifth-place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 24.15.
Sophie Daugard opened Saturday's competition for the Cardinals with an 11th place finish in the shot put.
On the track, Jennah Rogers qualified for the finals of the 100m hurdles after finishing ninth and crossing the finish line with a time of 14.31. In the finals, Rogers moved into fourth place with a time of 14.09.
After that, Sumrall placed second in the qualifying round in the 100m with a time of 11.77. Moriah Johnson would qualify as well, finishing ninth with a time of 12.00. Sumrall maintained her second-place position in the finals, improving her time to 11.55. Johnson advanced to eighth place, crossing the finish line with a time of 11.87.
The 4x100m relay team which consisted of Sumrall, Alana Springer, Steele and Oriani ran a collective time of 46.15, earning them third place.
Shortly after, Oriani had an impressive race in the 400m, finishing third with a time of 55.36.
The meet concluded with the 4x400m relay. The Ball State team made up of Alexis Thigpen, Paige Kirtz, Emma Potter, and Oriani finished fifth with a collective time of 3:57.32.
Up next, the Cardinals will prepare for the Music City Classic in Nashville, Tennessee scheduled for Apr. 26 and 27.
