Men's Swimming Team to Compete in Missouri Valley Conference Beginning in 2024-25
April 11, 2024 | Men's Swimming and Diving
MUNCIE, Ind. – Established in 1941 and a member of the Mid-American Conference since 1953, Ball State's men's swimming and diving program will begin competition in the Missouri Valley Conference beginning next season. Ball State men's and women's swimmers and divers both competed in the MAC through the 2023-24 season, though five of seven schools in the men's conference belonged to the MVC in other sports.
Ball State's women's swimming and diving team remains unaffected and will still compete in the MAC.
The announcement comes as the MVC announced today it will sponsor men's swimming & diving for the 2024-25 season. The MVC first sponsored men's swimming a century ago, with the first championship in 1924. The MVC has not sponsored men's swimming since 2002-03. Notably, the Conference has sponsored women's swimming every year since 1983.
"The Valley is excited welcomes the opportunity to provide this experience for our student-athletes," said MVC Commissioner Jeff Jackson. "We look forward to a great championship event and the continued growth and enhancement of our Conference."
Ball State and Miami University, the only traditional MAC members in the existing men's swimming conference, will join current MVC members Evansville, UIC, Missouri State, Southern Illinois, and Valparaiso to bring MVC men's swimming & diving sponsorship to seven institutions. The MAC has sponsored men's swimming & diving since 1953, and Evansville, Missouri State, and Southern Illinois have competed as MAC members in swimming & diving since 2010. Valpo joined the MAC as a men's swimming & diving member for the 2021-22 season. UIC joined the MAC for the 2022-23 season in men's swimming & diving.
