Gallagher Named MAC Golfer of the Week
February 29, 2024 | Women's Golf
CLEVELAND - - For her play at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational, Ball State sophomore Sarah Gallagher has been named the Mid-American Conference Women's Golfer of the Week.
Â
The third different Cardinals golfer to earn the honor this season, Gallagher finished play on the 6,024-yard, 72-par Quail Run Course at the Rio Verde Country Club tied for eighth among the field of 104 golfers with a score of -1 (215). It was her third career collegiate top-10 finish.
She opened the three-day tournament with a -1 (71) Friday and collected scores of E (72) on Saturday and Sunday. She finished as the top league golfer in the field which featured seven league schools and 39 conference student-athletes. In addition, her effort was just four strokes behind the tournament winner.
Overall, Gallagher finished the event with eight birdies and was one of just nine golfers to record an eagle in the tournament hosted by Western Michigan. She was also one of just 14 golfers not to card a score worse than a bogey.
Â
Gallagher's 215 was the lowest 54-hole score of her collegiate career, taking four strokes off the 219 she shot when she placed sixth at the 2022 Brittany Kelly Cardinal Classic.
Â
The Ball State women's golf team returns to action March 5-7 when it hosts the Puerto Rico Classic on the Palmas Del Mar Golf Club's Flamboyan Course.
