
Women’s S&D Tied for Fourth After Day 1 at MAC Championships

ATHENS, Ohio - - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team opened the 2024 Mid-American Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championships with a pair of solid relay efforts Wednesday evening at the Ohio University Aquatic Center.
With just the two relays contested on the opening day of the championships, the Cardinals collected 58 points and are tied for fourth overall with Buffalo. Akron and Miami are tied for first with 74 points.
The meet started with the Cardinals claiming third in the 200 medley relay, with Lilia Newkirk, Laura Wright, Hannah Jones and Payton Kelly combining for the third-fastest time in program history at 1:40.12.
Ball State then closed the day with the third-fastest 800 freestyle relay in the program's record books at 7:24.58. The effort by Marcella Ribeiro, Kiran Stauffer, Alexa Von Holtz and Kelly earned the Cardinals fifth place.
Action in the 2024 MAC Championships picks up Thursday with three individual swimming events, 1-meter diving, and the 200 freestyle relay. Prelims start at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
