Men's Basketball Drops Game Late to Eastern Michigan

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State men's basketball team had a chance in the last three seconds to tie the game or take the lead, but fell 58-56 to Eastern Michigan on Saturday afternoon at Worthen Arena.
The Cardinals (13-14, 5-9 Mid-American Conference) had the ball out of a side out of bounds with 3.3 seconds on the game clock but couldn't hit a halfcourt 3-pointer to pull ahead. The Eagles (11-16, 4-10 MAC) fought back from a 49-43 deficit with 9:04 to play.
Eastern Michigan started up 16-10 with 8:18 left in the first half, but the hosts closed the opening period strong to take a 27-26 edge into halftime. From there, Ball State led for the majority of the second half until a Jalin Billingsley triple put the visitors ahead 50-49 at the 6:23 mark.
Freshman forward Arne Osojnik hit a 3-pointer from the right wing with 24.3 seconds left on the game clock to give the Eagles a 57-53 advantage.
Basheer Jihad led the Cardinals with 18 points and 16 rebounds while adding three assists, three steals and two blocks. Mickey Pearson Jr. (13 points, three rebounds), Jalin Anderson (nine points, seven assists, six rebounds) and Davion Bailey (eight points, three rebounds, two steals) provided the bulk of the rest of the Ball State offense.
The hosts shot 34.5 percent (19-55) from the field, including 20.0 percent (5-25) on 3-pointers and went 81.3 percent (13-16) at the free throw line. Eastern Michigan hit 39.7 percent (23-58) of its field goals, 27.8 percent (5-18) of its triples and 63.6 percent (7-11) on free throws.
The Eagles outrebounded the Cardinals 42-35 but had one more turnover (11-10).
Ball State's next scheduled game is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Central Michigan.
