CLEVELAND - - For her part in helping guide the Ball State women's golf team to a third-place finish at the BGSU Women's Intercollegiate, junior Sabrina Langerak has been named the Mid-American Conference Women's Golfer of the Week.
Langerak led Ball State in all three rounds on the 6,058-yard, 71-par Blue Course at the Wigwam Resort and Country Club. The effort helped her finish third overall among the 78-player field with a score of 220 (+7), just two strokes back of the tournament co-winners.
Langerak even took the tournament lead early in the third round Wednesday, with back-to-back birdies on holes nine and 10. She went on to finish with the ninth-lowest round of the day at 75 (+4). The effort included three birdies and eagles on the par-4 14th and par-5 18th. She was the only golfer in the field to card multiple eagles in the tournament and tied for the event lead with 11 total birdies over her 54 holes.
After starting the event with an opening-round 74 (+3) to sit in a tie for 10th, Langerak shot the lowest second round among the field at 71 (E). The effort also tied as the second-lowest round of the entire event.
Overall, Langerak led the field on the course's five par-5 holes with an average of 4.47 and played them at a combined -8. She was just as solid on the par 4s, tying for sixth among the field at 4.24 (+5).
Up next for the Langerak and the Ball State women's golf team is the Rio Verde Invitational hosted by Western Michigan Feb. 23-25 at the Rio Verde Country Club in Rio Verde, Arizona.
