
Kingery Scores Career High 23 Points to Lift WBB Past NKU

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Behind true freshman Grace Kingery's 23-point performance, the Cardinals were able to bring home the 71-44 road victory Sunday afternoon at Northern Kentucky. With the win, Ball State improves to 7-4 on the season while Northern Kentucky drops to 2-9.

Kingery led all players with a personal best 23 points while her seven 3-pointers ranks sixth in the Cardinals' single-game record books. Elise Stuck chipped in 11 points while Ally Becki finished the day with 10. Defensively, Marie Kiefer ended the contest with nine rebounds.

As a team, Ball State dominated in the paint (30-14) while also holding onto a lead for over 36 minutes of play.

It was a tightly contested first half, but Kingery was able to provide a spark for the Cardinals as the true freshman in her first game-day start, took it upon herself scoring 17 points to help Ball State take a 40-27 cushion over Northern Kentucky at intermission.Â

For the half, Kingery went 6-of-9 from the field and 5-of-8 from behind the arc, helping Ball State to its largest lead (40-20) with just 1:17 remaining in the second quarter of play.Â

After the break, NKU came out of the gates strong as the Norse started the third quarter with a 7-0 run to cut the Cardinals once 20-point edge to six (40-34) at the 7:44 mark.Â

Kingery, once again came to Ball State's rescue. She drained her sixth 3-pointer of the contest to put BSU back up by nine (43-34). Kingery's 3-pointer sparked an 11-0 run for the Cardinals ultimately allowing BSU to build their lead back up to 17-points (51-34) with just under five minutes remaining in the third stanza. Ball State continued to dominate play and would increase its lead to 24 points (64-40) with one quarter remaining.Â

With Ball State outscoring Northern Kentucky 24-13 in the third stanza, the Norse were unable to recover the remainder of the contest allowing Ball State to walk away with today's victory.

The Ball State women's basketball team will wrap up its portion of the 2024 non-conference schedule when it hosts Anderson University on Thursday, Dec. 19 at 6:30 pm ET in Worthen Arena. Tickets are available for $1.00 for that game and make sure you wear an ugly Christmas sweater.Â
