
Kelly Named MAC Swimmer of the Week

CLEVELAND - - After winning three events and scoring a team-high 60 points at the Miami Invitational, Ball State junior Payton Kelly has been named the Mid-American Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week.

Kelly, who shares the award with Akron's Abigail Daniel, swept the freestyle sprint events over the three-day meet in Oxford, Ohio, starting by winning the 50 freestyle Thursday night with the fastest time in the MAC so far this season at 22.52.

Now a five-time career MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week, Kelly followed by capturing the top spot in Friday's 200 freestyle finals with a time of 1:47.77, which ranks second in the league so far this season. Finally, in Saturday's final session, she took the top spot in the 100 freestyle at 49.06 which also ranks second among all MAC swimmers this season.

Kelly also swam anchor for all five on BSU's top relays last week at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.

The Ball State women's swimming & diving program returns to action after the holiday break, when it joins the men's squad to host Evansville for senior day on Jan. 11. The meet is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
