Cardinal Student-Athletes Celebrate a Record-Setting Semester in Fall 2023

The Ball State University athletics department is celebrating a record-setting Fall 2023 semester that included a cumulative 3.44 GPA among 463 student-athletes that was the highest since Fall 2015 when reports of full-department GPAs began.
Ball State Athletics' semester GPA last fall is slightly above the department's 3.43 term GPA last spring which was then a new record. It marks the fifth consecutive semester in which Ball State student-athletes combined for a term GPA of 3.40 or better
All 19 Cardinals sports teams reported term GPAs last fall above 3.0 for the first time in program history.
"There is nothing more exceptional in college athletics than for student-athletes to be competitively excellent and academically superior," said Ball State Director of Athletics Jeff Mitchell. "I am proud of the leaders and winners that our student-athletes are becoming, and I am grateful to our devoted coaches and support staff who work diligently to ensure student success."
Women's golf (3.859), soccer (3.821) and cross country (3.715) teams turned in the highest GPAs among Ball State sports teams last semester. Softball (3.662), gymnastics (3.618) and women's volleyball (3.617) programs also produced GPAs at 3.60 or better. Men's tennis (3.603) and baseball (3.562) had the highest term GPAs last fall among men's teams. Among the program's nearly 500 student-athletes, 82 had 4.0 GPAs last semester and 58 percent (271) collected GPAs of 3.5 or above.
