January 29, 2024 | Men's Basketball
MAC Press Release
Basheer Jihad has been named the Mid-American Conference Co-Player of the Week for the third time, the MAC office announced Monday afternoon.
The junior forward led the Cardinals in scoring in wins at Buffalo (87-59 on Tuesday) and against Northern Illinois (81-71 on Saturday), dropping 20 points on the Bulls and 28 on the Huskies. Jihad added 14 rebounds and three assists on Saturday for a double-double after tallying nine rebounds and four assists on Tuesday.
The Detroit native went for 24.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game on the week to increase his season averages to 19.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. The scoring and rebounding marks both rank fourth in the MAC, making him the only player in the league to be in the Top 4 in both statistics.
Jihad was previous named the MAC Co-Player of the Week on Dec. 4 and Dec. 11, and his three recognitions are the second-most in the league so far.
The Cardinals have won three of their last four games to improve their record to 11-9 (3-5 MAC) and will host Bowling Green at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Worthen Arena.
